The hardware city is expected to become a leader by transforming into a modern enterprise system

On the 28th, Zhang Weiya, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress, during a survey of the development of China Science and Technology Hardware City, pointed out that our city has the support of the Yongwu Jinwu hardware industry cluster, the well-known brand of the Hardware City, and the foundation and reason to become a major market city.

On the 28th, Zhang Weiya, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress, conducted a research on the development of China Science and Technology Hardware City and pointed out that our city has the Yongwu Jinwu hardware industry cluster support, the well-known brand of Hardware City, and the foundation and reason to build a large market city.

China Science and Technology Hardware City consists of Jincheng Market, Jindu Market, "China Hardware Mall" online market, and an international convention center. After more than 20 years of development and growth, the physical market of China Science and Technology Hardware City has a total market operating area of 800,000 square meters, 3,436 business shops, operating 19 major categories and tens of thousands of hardware and related products. The total turnover of the physical market in the past three years was 40.13 billion yuan, 43.86 billion yuan, and 47.016 billion yuan respectively, ranking first among similar markets nationwide.

Supported by the physical market, "China Hardware Mall" has developed rapidly. In just three years, it has 350,000 member enterprises, 570,000 registered members, and 70,000 online shop members with business licenses. In 2012, the online transaction volume of "China Hardware Mall" reached 16.1 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth rate exceeding 50% for two consecutive years. In the first quarter of this year, the online hardware market transaction volume is expected to reach more than 4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 41.8%.

Next, China Science and Technology Hardware City will focus on the "business, travel, and vibrant market" strategy, aiming to build a smart market, focusing on improving market formats and operating capabilities, focusing on market upgrading and transformation, strengthening the online market, seizing the expansion of exhibitions, and compiling and publishing the "Yongkang Hardware Index".

Zhang Weiya conducted field research at the old business exchange hall of Hardware City Phase I, the Qianjin School block, and the metal materials and machinery equipment trading area of Hardware City Phase II, understanding the production and operation conditions of merchants.

Zhang Weiya pointed out that under the current background of transformation and upgrading of the hardware industry, the situation, position, and responsibilities faced by Hardware City have undergone new changes. To seek sustainable development under the new situation, it is necessary to further clarify the future positioning and development direction of Hardware City.

Zhang Weiya said that our city has an industrial foundation and good innate conditions for market development. Industry is the pillar of our city, and market and industry are mutually dependent and promote each other, with industrial development driving a large number of professional markets. However, the situation of markets in our city is the same as that of industries, with various markets being "numerous, miscellaneous, and small," and street markets are everywhere. As a leading market, China Science and Technology Hardware City's reputation is greater than its reality, and its driving role is not obvious enough.

Zhang Weiya pointed out that a market is a fulcrum that can leverage the development of the local economy and society. The focus of the "business, travel, and vibrant market" strategy is the market, and the "highlight" of service industry development is the market. We should view market construction from a strategic perspective and correctly understand the important positioning of the market. He proposed that the government should establish a market development committee, come up with a market governance plan, conduct industry-specific market allocation for various markets throughout the city, and focus on eliminating street markets.

Zhang Weiya believes that we should use a broad vision and ideas to view the future development of Hardware City. Hardware City cannot be satisfied with partial improvements, cannot continue to engage in small-scale operations, should jump out of the existing area to create a new market, should carry out high-level scientific planning, achieving high-level forms, management, and access, truly playing the role of a leading market and driving the development of markets throughout the city.

Zhang Weiya proposed that the current management system of Hardware City is not suitable for the needs of modern market development, and four transformations should be made: from managing the market to operating the market; from administrative and enterprise cross-integration management to a modern enterprise system with clear property rights and responsibilities; from a physical market to mutual prosperity between physical and online markets; and standardized exhibition organization, from "temple fair" style exhibitions to professional exhibitions.
